Old Worthy Brewery is the project of Nick Ravenhall on the Isle of Skye. The brewery name comes from 'local worthies', Islay distillery men legendary for their hard work and their production of fine Islay single malt whiskies. Further to the whisky connection, the flagship product is a Scottish Pale Ale brewed with honey and peat smoked malt. Nick's aim is to make a beer that would stand well on its own or paired with a dram of single malt whisky, as in the Scottish tradition of a half-and-half. Nick is clear to distinguish between Old Worthy's product and that of Innis & Gunn in that Nick's is brewed with peated malt while the latter's is aged in whisky casks. Great care has been taken to dial in the recipe to achieve the proper balance of all the ingredients.
Presently, Nick is working with Isle of Skye Brewery to produce the beer under contract. The first product should hit the UK market in the fall of 2012. Follow Nick's progress through the company's website and through social media.
