Far North Brewery
The
first Far North Brewery beer was brewed on 1 July 2000 by long time
homebrewer Peter Martin. Peter was born in the Borders but spent around 20
years in London working as an accountant and honing his homebrew craft. He
then changed occupations to hotelier and obtained the Melvich Hotel in
Sutherland on the north coast of Scotland. Peter felt the desire to offer
craft-brewed real ale to his customers at the hotel.
The Melvich Hotel was eventually sold and Peter relocated the brewery. Due to unforeseen circumstances the brewing has been temporarily halted. Thankfully, I am assured by Ingrid Martin that the brewery is well and truly very alive and will be brewing again in the future. My apologies for any misinformation on this brewery. My previous sources seemed to be in error.
Products that were brewed:
- Real Mckay
-

- Regular house beer more heavily hopped than traditional Scottish ales, late hopped with Styrian Goldings.
- Caithness Gold
-

- Awaiting further information on Caithness Gold but surely a golden colored session style ale.
