Originally planned as Moray Brewery, former Aberdeen University chemistry student, Seb Jones, decided to tie into the region's notoriety as a famous whisky distilling area by renaming his brewing venture Speyside Craft Brewery. Eschewing the normal route for a chemistry major, Seb decided not to go into the pertro-chemical industry but rather to stake a claim for craft beer in Forres. The brewery will launch at the Mosset Tavern in Forres on Wednesday, November 21st.
Seb's father was a homebrewer and he naturally followed suit to develop his initial recipes for the brewery the same way. Beers will be named after well-known icons in the region, the two being brewed for the launch are Moray IPA and Randolph's Leap Lager. The initial capacity of the brewery is 4,200 pints per week and beer will be packaged in cask and bottles.
