John Henderson inherited the 1800 acre Chesters Estate from his grandfather in 2003. Already having a well established farming heritage and, incidentally, already growing barley for malting, John decided that a brewery on the premises was a logical step. After about five challenging years of planning and bureaucracy, the brewery opened in February of 2011. The direct connection of the farm to the brewery has created Scotland's only plough to pint brewery.
Brewing is undertaken on a 10 barrel brewing plant installed by Johnson Brewing Design. At present, all beers are produced in cask-conditioned format and distributed primarily in the local area but also as far afield and Edinburgh and Newcastle.
